Fort 1881, het voormalige Fort aan den Hoek van Holland, is in 1881 gebouwd om de ingang van de Nieuwe Waterweg en de haven van Rotterdam te verdedigen vanwege oorlogsdreigingen. Het fort is van het type pantserfort en is ontworpen met zwaar kustgeschut, waaronder drie geschutskoepels met kanonnen.
10 Jaar leeggestaan
In 1889 werd het fort voor het eerst in gebruik genomen en in de Eerste Wereldoorlog was het fort volledig bemand. De vaste bezetting verliet in 1927 het fort, waarna het ruim 10 jaar heeft leeggestaan. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog was het fort in handen van de Duitsers, waarna de Koninklijke Marine het gebouw ging gebruiken als kazerne. Sinds 1987 is er een prachtig museum gevestigd in het fort en sinds enkele jaren kun je er heerlijk eten, trouwen, feesten, teambuilden, etc.

Tegenwoordig is dit bijzondere fort geopend voor publiek en kunt u hier het museum bezoeken of lekker een kopje koffie drinken. Fort 1881 organiseert ook zeer regelmatig leuke publieksevenementen, zoals Fortissimo1881 – een klassieke concertserie of het Fort-Fest 1881 – een sfeervol festival met muziek, kraampjes, lekker eten en nog veel meer.

Het stoere fort is ook een perfecte achtergrond voor een succesvol bedrijfsuitje of sfeervol familiefeest. Daarnaast is het hele fort een officiële trouwlocatie, dus met het karakteristieke uiterlijk en zijn omvang, kun je hier een geweldige bruiloft organiseren.
